Janie was just here for a visit and we had a very busy time. We went to the movies a couple of times, we had a couple of doctors' appointments, we ate out a couple of times and cooked a couple of very good meals at home - the time went very fast.
You know Janie is always looking for new challenges for me. This time it was to go to the state fair in Tulsa. We did pick a good time to go when the crowds were not too bad and the weather was beautiful that day. We didn't have to ride any of the rides because I had my own "tilt a whirl".
One of our favorite things at the fair was the Butterfly Pavilion. There were thousands of butterflies of all different colors. They seemed to love my hair!
Another challenge was to go down town again. Janie walked with me and we went to watch the Northeastern State University homecoming parade. I still do not feel very comfortable with going down rough streets or streets that are very steep. I know young kids would just be zipping around in their power chairs but I am not very brave in my power chair. About a month ago Cindy Clark and I went to a big arts and crafts show with many, many booths, and cracked and uneven pavement and areas of just grass and dirt fields. I have to admit I was a little bit afraid (well, maybe a LOT afraid) but by the end of the day I was very proud that I had maneuvered through all those crowds. I didn't run into very many people.
I am still riding my Motomed to California but I have lost track of where I am, probably near Oklahoma City. I hope you know it is a stationary bike, it has a motor that turns the pedals and keeps the mileage each time. I am adding up the mileage and counting how many miles it would take to get from my house in Oklahoma to Ken's house in Fremont, CA. I still do not have any movement of my lower extremities. I work out on my exercise mat about three times a week.
I continue working with my kids worship group at my church on Wednesday nights. I really enjoy the kids and I think it is very good therapy for me.
As much as my life took a complete turn from what I had expected and this is not at all what I planned for my retirement, I am hanging on to what I have: unbelievably wonderful and supportive family and friends. I have hope that one day there will be a breakthrough in stem cell research or some new medication or procedure that will open up the nerve pathways in my spinal cord.

Just keep on keeping on ! Love you! Can't wait to get back to be with you.....Love the butterflies......Pauletta
ReplyDeleteI believe that the stem cell research is very close........they are making great strides, so we will never give up on that!

So proud of you for going down that sidewalk to see the parade. I used to skate down Depot Hill, that's the name given to that hill. You were brave to go to the fair, but glad you had a great time. I am praying for a miracle and I believe it will come!"
