Thanksgiving 2010

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We celebrated Thanksgiving on the Sunday before. Alison came with Maddie and Josh. Leonard cooked the turkey but Alison had prepared most of the rest of the dishes, Brian and Susan also brought a dish to share. Alison even mixed up the dressing in her car while driving from Colorado. Susan and Tim and the kids and Brad and Amy and Sawyer and Brian and Serena and Leonard and Mom and I all enjoyed the day, the food and being with family.

Actually my Thanksgiving started a couple of days earlier. Leonard had gone out to the lake to see if the fishing was any good. He decided it wasn't a good day for fishing and was walking back to his truck when a wild turkey came running right out of the woods and stopped right in front of him. He grabbed the turkey around the neck with one hand and grabbed the foot with other and put it in the back of his truck. He found someone who could process and get it ready for cooking. They told him it needed to sit for a couple of days to tenderize, so it is not the one we had on Sunday. A couple of days later he smoked it and it was one of the best turkeys I have ever eaten.

On Thanksgiving Day I didn't have to work or sleep because I had worked the night before; I didn't have to be busy cooking Thanksgiving dinner. I just sat and watched the whole Macy's parade without any interruption. The highlight of my day was "skyping" with Ken, Nellie, Christopher and Samantha. Nellie's family was also at Ken's house so it felt just like I was sitting at their table enjoying Thanksgiving Dinner with all of them! If you don't know about Skype, you must investigate it. It allows you to almost be right there with friends and family via the internet and a webcam!
Now I am looking forward to Christmas. I hope all of you have a wonderful month and a very Merry Christmas.

  8. After much cursing and screaming, my genius son walked me through the steps, one by one, to get all your blogs, FINALLY!! Loved seeing Leonard's wild turkey, after hearing you describe the time it spent with you two before meeting its demise.

Your beautiful remembrance of time before and time now was really touching and brought tears to this old broad's eyes. Hugs, Kathi
