Trip to Chicago!

My Dragon Naturally Speaking is still not working correctly so it’s been a while since I have been able to easily respond to emails or send an update.  So here it is!

The Chicago surgeon who performed my bladder surgery last April wants to see me annually for a checkup, so I just returned from another “whirlwind” trip to Chicago.  Once again, Janie and Gary flew here from Arizona and we talked my brother Leonard into traveling with us in my van to Pauletta’s house in Libertyville, IL.  She converted her living room into a special suite for me, along with a rented hospital bed and Hoyer lift.  Dr. Kielb gave me a great report and doesn’t need me to return for another year.  Pauletta and Janie always make my doctor visits fun and unforgettable!  Details will have to be discussed in person (not approved for all audiences!).

In addition to the doctor visit, Pauletta had several fun activities planned.  We spent several hours at the Chicago Botanical Gardens and thoroughly enjoyed it.  Lunch and the gift shop were also a hit.

Another day we went to the horse races at Arlington Park.  We were all impressed with the beautiful facility and some of us even won a little money on the races.  I won two out of the 5 races we bet on!  Pauletta had to do some “dumpster diving” after she threw away her winning ticket, and Janie and Pauletta caused Leonard to double his bets by using the automated betting machines incorrectly!  Sorry, Leonard.

We had terrific meals prepared by Steve and Pauletta, Gary and Janie, and dear friends Harry and Debra.  We also got to visit with Chicago friends Pam and Dominic and Stephanie.  Thanks for arranging everything, Pauletta!

Summer has arrived in Tahlequah!  About 25 years ago Mother and Daddy planted a beautiful Gold Rain Tree in their front yard.  Of course, I am living in that house now and the tree is in all its glory!  I remember how much they both loved this tree.

Mother is settled into Grace Living Center full time and doing pretty well.  Thanks to my care giver Lori, I get to see her every day or so.  Chris was also in Tahlequah recently and was able to spend lots of time with Mother and even brought her over to the house to visit.  It was great to see you, Chris.

It is so hard to believe that I will actually be celebrating my 50th High School Reunion soon!  I have been serving on the organizational committee and am looking forward to the event.  A dear friend from California will be arriving here soon and plans to accompany me.  It should be great fun!

Thanks again for your continued prayers and your interest in my ever-changing life.  I would love to hear from YOU too!
