Anyone who has been reading this blog knows what an
incredible family I have. And this past
weekend we all got together to celebrate my mother's 94th birthday. There were 26 of us. Susan has membership in a campground along
the Illinois River and she was able to secure the clubhouse there for our
celebration. Alison and Maddie put up the decorations, Pauletta got the
beautiful cake from Morgan's Bakery (a local bakery for well over 50 years) and prepared ALL of the food! We had hamburgers and hot dogs and all the
good stuff that goes along with that.
Plus Leonard made homemade ice cream. Everything was so good and
everyone had a terrific time. You could tell that Mom loved having all of
her family around. The only ones missing
were Kevin's wife and daughters and my son Ken and his family.
In July I was able to go to Fremont to visit Ken and Nelly
and Chris and Samantha. Ken and Nelly
were able to take some days off work while I was there and also last February
for our cruise so they didn't have much vacation time left. I had a wonderful time.with them. Ken took me
to some of my favorite places like the giant redwood trees at Big Basin. My caregiver, Lori, was able to go with me
and she was such a great help and I think she had a pretty good time also. I
appreciate her family for letting me have her for a week. I stayed at Riki’s
B&B for the week. Riki had a ramp
into her house and her house was very accessible for me. On Monday after I got there she planned a
little come and go party so friends I had worked with at Washington Township
Hospital in Fremont for so many years could come and visit. It was so nice to
see old friends.
In June I helped at my church’s Vacation Bible School. I have always enjoyed doing that. This year I told Bible stories to
first-graders. I had four different groups of about 6 to 10 kids and about 30
min. with each group. Karen Mann is a
young woman in my church and she was a great help to me.
So that is how I spent my summer. I can't believe it went by
so fast and now school is starting up again. Well I don't know why school starting is of
any significance to me but it seems like that's how I mark my year ending and
starting even more than New Year's Day.

What a great summer you have had! I am glad we could share in part of it. The party/reunion was so much fun, wasn't it? Your trip to California sounds like so much fun. Now, you have to plan a trip to Chicago next!!
