Beverly is feeling more like she's getting back to "normal" since she has this wonderful van to take her places! It makes it so much easier to go to therapy, and we had two other big outings the last few days. First, we went to a movie in Muskogee on Saturday and she was surprised at how easy it was. There was special seating for wheelchairs and the movie popcorn was so good!
Then, she had been hoping to get to church for the last few weeks but weather kept her at home. Finally yesterday was the day. We got up a little earlier and finished the morning routine in time to make it to church by 10:30am. Beverly said she was a little nervous about going but we got into the church pretty quickly and found a special place for her power chair next to the back row. As I expected, as soon as people began to see her, they started coming by with hugs and kisses. The service began and the pastor, Brother Buddy, welcomed everyone and especially Beverly Kohl! He told the congregation a little about the accident and her volunteer missions and then said how happy he and the entire church were to see her there. He said how much they have missed her and how much the entire church loves her. Then the entire congregation stood, turned to face her and gave her a rounding applause, a standing ovation that she never expected and she was overcome with emotion, as we all were.
And then after chrch so many people wanted to see her and talk to her, we were the last people to leave the church. After a quick trip to see Mother at Heritage Place we were back home before 3pm, worked out some on the mat platform, had dinner and were both ready for bed.
There has been a significant change in physical therapy, beginning this week. Someone suggested that if Beverly was still on the "payroll" at Tahlequah City Hospital, we should see if she could get the employee discount for the out-patient physical therapy available at the hospital. We had heard that they were often booked for a month at a time. But she met with the director of outpatient rehab services, Lecil Harper, who agreed to make time for her AND at the employee discount! This was wonderful news and will save her over 50% of the previous charges.
Thanks for checking on Beverly again. More in a few days!
