Sunday evening was a very special event for Beverly. When we were told that the GA's from church were bringing the evening meal, we asked them to just stay and eat with us. At 6:00 pm sixteen girls and their wonderful leaders (headed up by Jill Mabry) marched into the house carrying our dinner. They quickly spread quilts on the floor, served up the delicious food, including individual cheesecakes topped with various fruit toppings prepared by the girls themselves.....delicious!
After we finished eating, all the girls gathered around Beverly closely, and much to her surprise, she was presented with her very own honorary GA bracelet which they put on her wrist, and soon tears were rolling down her face. The bracelets are used by the organization to award the girls for their "good works" Each Italian-type charm signifies a meaningful accomplishment. Beverly thanked the girls for their prayers and talked with them about her recovery process. They all said they missed her at their meetings (she also serves as a leader for the group).
When we started talking the possibility of a home make-over, the girls said to their leader, Jill, "Oh, can we tell her? Can we tell her". She said that of course they could, and then showed us a picture of the children's choir group at church. Their shirts read "PGA" which means "Praising God Always".
Here's what THEY did in an effort to help:
Beverly has been instrumental in helping to shape children's lives at First Baptist Church for many years. So, their demonstration of love and support for her is heartwarming. She just had a wonderful evening (and wore her bracelet to bed.)
We are still:
enjoying the freedom of the new van
going to pysical therapy three times a week
eating well (and a lot) thanks to your continued kindness in bringing in meals
sleeping soundly
Thanks for checking in, and be sure to save May 9 - details later.
