Goodbye OU Medical Center

We left the OU Medical Center this morning with mixed emotions.......so very glad to be gone and out of the hospital, but sadly saying goodbye to some very special people there who were so kind and encouraging to Beverly. The word spread quickly yesterday that she was leaving, and this morning, everyone wanted to come and say good bye and good luck! Some of her therapists shed a few years when saying goodbye. The say SHE was an inspiration to THEM throughout this ordeal!

What a haven Jim Thorpe Rehabilitation Center is.......compared to all the ICU rooms we have been in lately! It even smells good! Our wonderful Case Assessment Specialist Amy-Dawn Epperson had a nice cinnamon aroma Santa Clause awaiting us in room 5206 ! Janie and Pauletta dressed Beverly in sweat pants for the move......she looked beautiful in something other than a hospital issue gown which she has been wearing since September 18! The transport from OU Medical Center took place about 10:30 am and went quite smoothly in spite of the spitting rain and snow! The Medi-Van transport specialists Brent and Heather took good care of Beverly during the short drive to Jim Thorpe, and didn't even complain when Janie asked them to pose for a photo!

Beverly's room is large, light and airy, with lots of windows and that alone should lift her spirits! And if her evening meal is any judge, the food will be delicious. (It does not smell like a mixture of macaroni and bleach, like most hospitals.) We spent most of the day getting settled and acquainted with our new doctors, nurses, aides and therapists. We were so encouraged by the kind words of Dr. Andrea Fraley, who (like Bill Hammon at OU Med Ctr) thinks Beverly has great potential! Now, tomorrow the real work begins! She is so ready! We believe that her insomnia will be a thing of the past, once she spends her waking hours working so hard!

We are anxious for Chris to return tomorrow, when Pauletta and Steve take a two day trip to Tulsa and Tahlequah. Then Leonard comes for the weekend. We believe the nice folks here will discuss with him some modifications which might be needed at Beverly's home.
