Jim Thorpe Rehab Facility, here we come!

This is the answer we have been hoping and praying for ever since October 24 when we got Beverly back to Oklahoma! Pauletta got the phone call about noon today, December 8, from our wonderful Case Assessment Specialist at Jim Thorpe, Amy-Dawn Epperson, that we were accepted at Jim Thorpe Rehabilitation Center! Special thanks go out to Sam Porter (Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma Disaster Relief Director) and to Dr. Jordan, head of BGCO for making this happen!

The move will take place on Tuesday, December 9, at about 10 am. Jim Thorpe center will send a "MediVan" to pick up Beverly and take her the short distance (about 15 minutes) to the facility. We are so excited and a bit apprehensive of what happens next. But we know that this is the corner we are destined to turn, and that her physical recovery will start to happen, and happen fast! We are hesitant to give up her daily care and needs, but know that her recovery depends on her independence, and so we sisters will step back and let the therapists at Jim Thorpe do their job! She is anxious to regain her independence, and this is the first step!

Beverly had a nice visit today from Jill Mabry....what a wonderful young woman and what a treasure she must be to the First Baptist Church in Tahlequah. She brought a great poster from the GA's and such a bright Christmas gift to Beverly...thank you Jill and the GA's! And thanks for the delicious goodies! Then after Beverly was up in her chair, we looked up and there was Becky Gates! It was a wonderful surprise visit! Becky, from Coweta, was on the disaster relief team with Beverly, and was the person who stayed with her after the "fall" from the trailer, and rode with her in the ambulance to the hospital in Baton Rouge and made the initial contacts with us. It seemed appropriate that Becky was there when we got the call that we had been accepted at Jim Thorpe. The three of us, Beverly, Pauletta and Becky, all cried our tears of joy! Then we thanked God that our prayers had been answered. YOUR prayers have been answered!

So, tomorrow, we begin our new journey at rehab. When Janie arrived at the hospital today, she emphasized what we need to visualize. We can visualize her recovery, (even if it is painful) we visualize her walking again, we can visualize her once again doing what she loves so much, and that is giving to others! Just as we have grown to love the people at OU Med Center who have given her such great care, such great encouragement, we know that the new people we meet tomorrow will also quickly learn what a special person she is and give her the best possible care and love and encouragement. We learned during a tour at Jim Thorpe, that "miracles happen here" and we believe it.

More tomorrow on her transfer, her new room number, and her new routine. Thanks again for your care, your concern, your prayers and your love and friendship! Beverly loves you!
