Another milestone was reached today.....Beverly's trach was capped! Assuming she does well, and so far all IS well, ( she just has to breathe through her nose now) she could get the trach removed tomorrow! Another hurdle on the road to recovery!
Her day was busy with the various therapy sessions, but each one showed improvement from yesterday! Thank goodness the food is good here, as her appetite is great! She suggested that she should probably ask her doctor, Dr. Fraley, to discontinue the Megase (an appetite stimulant) because she now eats everything in her sight. She can't seem to get warm (the weather in Oklahoma City is reaching record lows....and Jim Thorpe rehab hospital has lot of windows) but thankfully Pauletta found the blanket warmer and keeps sneaking in warm blankets. Today she counted TEN blankets in her room.....sort of reminiscent of "The Princess and the Pea". They won't let us return them to the warmer and they don't really need washing, so they pile up! We don't know if she asks for hot chocolate because she is thirsty, or if she just enjoys holding the warm cup in her hands!
We will keep you updated on how the trach capping goes. Janie brought new movies for the evening's entertainment, and read her lots of new mail and Christmas cards! Thanks for checking in!
