Today was an "exciting" day at Jim Thorpe Rehab Center. The speech therapy session at 9am went well with the normal breathing exercises. Then Beverly began practicing on a New Year's Eve Party Horn! Her good friend Riki sent a special package of New Year's Eve party horns, hats, tiaras, leas, etc for a fun time on the 31st. Beverly surprised the therapist with a strong breath and loud "honk" on the horn. Now she's ready to party on New Year's Eve!

During her physical therapy session she was placed in a mechanical stand-up machine that hoisted and then supported her in a standing position. This was the first time since the afternoon of September 18th that she was completely vertical. Well, after a couple of seconds in this position, she passed out completely and scared Janie nearly to death! It also caused some commotion in the gym while she was removed from the machine and placed on the exercise pad. She was only out about 15-20 seconds and has no memory of it but it took Janie about an hour to recover. Beverly's body just isn't quite ready for this position I guess.

After the regular afternoon sessions she had a real treat: Aqua-therapy! We thought this meant she would be placed in a chair and lowered into the pool. But no... she was helped into a floating position and with the help of a few aids like a "noodle", she got to spend about an hour floating on her back and completely relaxing. She said this was a wonderful feeling and it looks like she will get to do this most afternoons at 3pm.

Pauletta and Steve returned from Chicago and have found a place to rent while in Oklahoma City with Beverly. They were happy to leave the cold weather in Chicago and Beverly and Janie were very happy to see them.

As we come to the end of 2008, Beverly wants to thank all of you for all of your prayers over the last three + months. Also, your visits to her at the OU Med Center and Jim Thorpe have meant very much to her. We know some of you drove over 7 hours round trip just to see her. We're sorry if we didn't mention everyone by name, but please know how much she appreciated it.

We will count on your continued well wishes and prayers as we begin 2009 and as Beverly continues her journey towards recovery. Happy New Year!
