On September 18, 2008, Beverly Kohl was volunteering on the Oklahoma Southern Baptist Disaster Relief Team in Baton Rouge, LA, following Hurricane Gustav, when she fainted after a long day’s work, and fell 5 feet to the ground below, leaving her paralyzed from the chest down.

Thursday evening around 7pm I (Janie) spoke with the neurosurgeon, Dr Mitchell. He said they will do surgery in a few days (after the swelling in her spine goes down) to relieve pressure on her bruised spine. He said she is very alert and aware of everything but for the time being she can't move her legs. He feels this is most likely due to the swelling, since she could move her right leg when she arrive at ER. That's really all I know from our conversation. I assume after surgery she'll have to be in the hospital for a few more days.
