When I arrived at 1:00, THE VENTILATOR HAD BEEN REMOVED!!! I could see all of her face for the first time, there was nothing in her mouth at all! I was so glad to see that she could smile with her lips, instead of just with her eyes. She was struggling to breathe on her own. Apparently, when someone is removed from a ventilator, it takes some different kinds of therapy to get their body used to breathing the way a normal person breathes. She is breathing shallow right now. She has an oxygen mask on now that they rotate out with another kind of mask from 100% oxygen down to about 40% oxygen. Right now, she is getting tired with the breathing, and because of that, they have given her a c-pap machine so that she can hopefully rest and sleep. Periodically, they remove the c-pap to see how well she is breathing and if her breathing is becoming more regular. She sounds like a frog when she talks! She even said, "I love Ken." It was really nice to see her smile and smile.
If there is anyone in the Baton Rouge area, who is reading this update, please spread the word that Beverly has received three units of blood. Our family would like to replace the blood for the hospital, Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge. If anyone is in contact with the church, Florida Avenue Baptist Church, and is interested in helping in this way, please donate at the blood center in the hospital and let them know the donation is in the name of Beverly Kohl.
