Update from Pauletta

Good morning all. I just spoke with a nurse in Critical Care named Summer. She was extremely nice as they all are. Heather, the night nurse whom we were with last night, is with a new patient from ER and couldn't talk now, so Summer was quite helpful.

She had an "okay" night, which at first scared me, since she had evidently had a "good" night the previous night. However, several things she told me are very encouraging:

They were able to decrease the Dopamine (a "pressures" medication) somewhat, and her blood pressure right now is 114 over 58 - I think that is great, since yesterday her pressure was down to 60. She is able to make urine. Her oxygen level is good.

The new (weekend) neurologist just came by and has already left. He told Heather to tell us that the plan of action was to continue to monitor her over the weekend and Dr. Mitchell will reassess her Monday and decide about surgery. She will remain in critical care over the weekend. I did not ask Heather about moving her to Tulsa, as I knew she would not have an answer. Janie, if you or Leonard want to talk to the weekend doctor about that possibility, that would be great. I did not get his cell number but can try when we get there. His name is Dr. Soleau (pronounced so-low).

They want to "get her off her booty" and moving and she will have some sort of therapy today to prevent pneumonia as well as some sort of physical therapy ??

The night nurse called about 6:30 as promised. Deedy had an okay night. Her main complaint is the uncomfortable nose tube irritating her throat. Every time I go I spray her throat with chloraseptic which seems to help. She gave her some morphine overnight, but only as much as blood pressure will allow. Also Atavan. Right now her pressures are good as is her heart rate. They gave her some insulin yesterday for her blood sugar level. At lunch she ate two cups of jello, but did not have any for dinner, and I am not sure why. When we were there on our last visit, they gave her an EKG as her heart rate wasn't where they wanted it to be. They showed us the readout which she (Jan, the night nurse) didn't like. The second EKG showed a huge improvement. All her vitals were good by the time we left. They don't have the blood test results back yet this morning (the potassium and enzymes results) but should shortly. I think her heart is fine. I am sure when we get there this morning I will see even more improvement.
