On September 18, 2008, Beverly Kohl was volunteering on the Oklahoma Southern Baptist Disaster Relief Team in Baton Rouge, LA, following Hurricane Gustav, when she fainted after a long day’s work, and fell 5 feet to the ground below, leaving her paralyzed from the chest down.

The nurse called at 6:00 am with an update that Beverly was having a rough time and had struggled with breathing through the night. The nurse called again at 9:00 am to inform us that Beverly had to be put back on the ventilator. Although Beverly didn't want to go through the trauma of being re-intubated, she understood that it was what she needed for now. She was heavily sedated and is resting and breathing comfortably. After about 36 hours they will start trying to bring her off the ventilator again. Janie and Chris visited at 10:00 am and talked with the PA and nurses. The nurses are taking great care of her.
