We got the 6am call from Nurse Heather to tell us Deedy had a very good night. Since Ken must return to California this morning, the CC unit allowed us to visit her from 6-7am. She was glad to see us but sad that Ken must return to his family in California. We had so hoped that Deedy could be off the ventilator before Ken left, but we are encouraged that it could happen today.
Throughout the day Deedy will be breathing on her own even though the ventilator is still there. Assuming she can breath on her own for at least an hour two or three times during the day, it may be removed before the end of the day. She communicated with her eyes and hands that she can't wait - and she promised that she will take deep breaths as she can.
At our 9pm visit Saturday evening we read Deedy all the emails that have been sent to her and she was so pleased to hear from everyone. She has also received many cards, but we're waiting for her to be able to read them herself.
I'll let you know how today goes and will send another update as things improve.
