We had a good visit with Deedy at 5pm. She is still very groggy but was glad to see us and responded to all of our questions. We were talking about the wonderful Louisiana food we've been having and she let us know to stop talking about that. All she has is that terrible feeding tube! Po Boy in a blender I guess.

Her surgeon's partner stopped by today and felt that her progress was good. We'll talk more with Dr. Mitchell on Monday. Tomorrow will be an important day, with Deedy attempting to breathe on her own. We're very hopeful, and she lets us know she can't wait for that time so she can talk to everyone.

She keeps wanting to scratch her nose so Ken and I are helping her with that. She is moving both arms/hands but they don't always go where she wants them. Alison emailed several pictures directly to Walgreen's across the street from the hospital and we picked them up: pictures of her cat "Deacon", Mom, and other family pictures. They are strung on a ribbon above the end of her bed near the ceiling so she can see them easily. Other pictures are taped around her room: Deedy with several African children, of her sisters and a large picture of her cat. Since she can't have flowers in her room yet, these certainly brighten the room and seem to give her lots of pleasure.

Pauletta left Chris's "article" about Deedy for the nurses to read. Her nurse today is Andrea and she said that Miss Beverly is such an inspiration to her and the other nurses. If you would like a copy of this story about Deedy, let us know through an email.

We pass along to Deedy all of your emails, good wishes and prayers.
