The nurse Regina called at 6:15am and said Deedy had a restful night. They gave here a bath and washed her hair and she enjoyed that. She woke up with a headache and was able to communicate that to Regina. She was on assisted breathing last night so that she could get more rest and get stronger for today's big event.

At my 10am visit she looked good - the swelling in her hands is almost completely gone and she is moving both of them freely but they don't always get where she wants them to go. She was switched from assisted breathing to sustained breathing on her own at 8am. The respiratory therapist arrived around 10:15 and has begun the extubation process which takes a few hours. They have removed the feeding tube to be certain nothing is in her stomach that could get into her lungs when everything is removed. She is off any kind of sedation which tends to slow down her breathing. She's trying so hard to talk to me and can't wait until she can. I know she'll have a lot to say! It's been a week that she's held everything all in. The first thing she wants to do is call Ken and say I love you. She communicated that she has a very sore throat and may only be able to whisper.

She has been the most patient patient you can ever imagine. And she is so eager to get this stage over with and get back to Oklahoma. I'm hoping that will happen this week. I'll let you know as I hear more from all her doctors.
