On September 18, 2008, Beverly Kohl was volunteering on the Oklahoma Southern Baptist Disaster Relief Team in Baton Rouge, LA, following Hurricane Gustav, when she fainted after a long day’s work, and fell 5 feet to the ground below, leaving her paralyzed from the chest down.

Addendum......Sunday
Great news! Janie just called to say that thanks to the agressiveness of Margie (nurse) and Lisa (respiratory tech) that they called the doctor and got permission to try taking Beverly off the vent! He gave approval, and soon thereafter, she was OFF the ventilator for one and a half hours with NO PROBLEM! The short coughing spell she had was very typical, and everything else looked great! We are thrilled with this big step and know that she will soon be out of ICU, into another room, and shortly be at the Jim Thorpe Rehabilition Center!
