Beverly had four visitors today which she really enjoyed. And they are getting better at lip reading so had good conversations. (Thanks, Kathy for the delicious brownies!) After they left, the speech therapist spent some time with Beverly and she tried the speaking valve again, this time for about 15 minutes. We really like the sound of her voice - at last!
Dr. Kinasewitz suggested that we try a 24-hour period as though she were at home - meaning no labs, no chest x-ray, no disturbances during the night. A "vacation" from hospital routine. What a great idea! And she's listening to sounds of the ocean (possibly St. Croix, USVI?) which is bound to help her sleep through the night.
She's looking forward to a visit from Leonard on Wednesday and Chris returns Wednesday afternoon to alternate with Janie. It was nice to have the nursing staff say how much they appreciate our being here with our sister and how much they feel it is helping her recovery. We wouldn't be anywhere else.
A SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM BEVERLY TO YOU:
I can't talk right now because of the trach, but even if I could there are no words to express how much love and appreciation I have for all of you - those friends I have known for years and friends I have just recently met. I know there are also those whose names I don't even know who are praying for me. I know my recovery will be a large part due to your prayers and your love and your encouragement.
I know you all realize what a wonderful family I have and how much I appreciate them for keeping up this website where I feel we are in touch daily. I still have a long way to go and I know I can make it with lots of hard work, your encouragement and your constant prayers. (Lip reading by Janie)
