Beautiful Beverly

Beverly looked great today! After having her hair shampooed and her facial, she was sitting up in the chair looking around ICU, and no less than three nurses commented on how great she looked. "Are you wearing makeup?" "Why does your hair always look better than mine?" "You look just like Marilyn Monroe would have looked at 60!" We got a real kick out of this! Deedy just rolled her eyes and shook her head.

Before getting in the chair, she sat on the side of the bed again and this time - for a brief few seconds - completely supported herself! She also practiced moving to her right and left sides and supporting herself on her elbow (with some help from the physical therapists). She also had a good visit with Etter, a friend from Tahlequah. Etter even stayed for Deedy's session with the speech therapist and heard her practice with the speaking valve. Etter also caught her up on the volunteer organizations Deedy participates in. (Have you thought about volunteering some of your time yourself - to help fill the void until Deedy is back at it??)

The ventilator setting for pressure support was reduced again today to "8". Soon she'll be at "0"! Tonight she and Chris are watching a movie on Chris's laptop. Hope Deedy can stay awake until it's over and then have a good night's sleep. Dr Kanesowitz is giving her another "vacation" from hospital routine (no labs, no chest x-rays, etc.) - this time for the entire weekend!
