A Good Nights Sleep

Beverly had a very good night's rest - at last! She says it was probably due to the "sound machine" which made her think she was at the ocean. She really enjoyed her one-day vacation from hospital routine but is back on it again, meaning lab work, chest x-rays, disturbances throughout the night, etc.

Each day that passes makes Beverly more and more determined to get off the dependence on the ventilator. Today she told her doctor that she has been hoping that she will be off the vent and on to rehabilitation by Thanksgiving. He said that is probably not possible, but for sure by Christmas. He stated that he doesn't want to rush things and have any kind of setback. As you know, she still needs a little assistance from the ventilator for breathing, and again today she was on the C-PAP setting for over 15 hours. We asked if she could stay on this setting overnight but he wants to be sure she is getting her rest so will continue to go back on "control" mode at night.

Beverly enjoyed Leonard's visit today and he was there while she sat up on the side of the bed and with some helping hands, could almost support herself with her arms on the bed. She then was moved into the chair again for a couple of hours. It gives a different viewpoint than from the hospital bed. She also worked with the occupational therapist and physical therapist for a while today, each day gaining a little more use of her arms and hands.

Glad to have Chris back to alternate with Janie. Hopefully Pauletta is getting some well earned rest and relaxation back in Chicago.
