It was six weeks ago today that Beverly began her exciting first day as a disaster relief volunteer in Baton Rouge, LA, following Hurricane Gustof. As you know, around 4:00pn she began to feel exhausted and needed fresh air. When she reached the end of the open cooking trailer to get some fresh air, she fainted and fell out of the trailer onto the concrete below. That started a nightmare for Beverly that she just couldn't wake up from.
But today, after 6 weeks in intensive care and finally settled in at the OU Medical Center in her beloved Oklahoma she made some very significant progress. She brushed her hair! She brushed her teeth! She wash and dried her face. She even attempted to crochet. All of this was with the help of her wonderful Occupational therapist, Pauline Tallent.
Beverly's first visitors today were Carol Howe and Dean Gandy , University Hospitals Authority, University Hospital Trust. They played such a major role in getting Beverly moved here and I'm afraid Janie kinda of fell apart while trying to thank them. John Land and his wife Marilyn also visited Beverly. John was with the Disaster Team in Baton Rouge and has continued to check on Beverly often.
Beverly also had the "spa" treatment from Martha, a nurse's aid. Martha washed her hair, bathed her, massaged her with Crabtree & Evelyn lotion. How wonderful she feels this afternoon
