On September 18, 2008, Beverly Kohl was volunteering on the Oklahoma Southern Baptist Disaster Relief Team in Baton Rouge, LA, following Hurricane Gustav, when she fainted after a long day’s work, and fell 5 feet to the ground below, leaving her paralyzed from the chest down.

We just left the hospital and Deedy was just fine. She was more alert than she had been all day. For some reason, they doubled her dose of Atavan today, and she was snoozing away most of the day! All vital signs are good. Every time I started talking she either wrinkled her brow (as if to say "you silly sister") or opened her eyes, even if for just a few seconds. It appears now that the tracheotomy will be performed on Wednesday...yeah! Her move to Tulsa could be as soon as Friday...yeah! Pauletta and Steve
