Two steps forward, one step back!

This morning around 3am, Beverly's heart rate dropped below 40. Shortly after, it was up to over 140. We thought the pacemaker was supposed to take care of the low heart rate problem and medication would take care of the high rate. This apparently didn't happen early this morning. A cardiologist intern talked to Beverly about this for some time this morning. The manufacturer of the pacemaker will be checking out the function and may need to change the range at which it starts working. I asked if they read on the pacemaker box: "Batteries Not Included". I was surprised earlier when I read the literature on the pacemaker that there is a warranty card to send in. Hmmmm. Sounds more like a toaster than a pacemaker!)

A different occupational therapist worked with Deedy this morning and we were both very pleased with her encouragement and technique. She was also pleased with Deedy's current range of motion and the fact that she can hold and drink from a cup with a straw and then hand it to me slowly.

There was a mix up with her meals. I noticed yesterday there was no metal stand to hold her night feeding container was in the room. This container provides nourishment through the tube in her stomach. I asked about this and the nurse said her file contained no instructions for night feeding. So, she had received no nutrition from Thursday night until Monday night. She has been eating a little bit of the three meals each day but certainly not enough to sustain her. When the order for the tube feeding was placed in the computer, it replaced her regular daytime meal orders. She never received her Monday evening meal. Breakfast hadn't arrived by 9am and I asked about it. She finally received it at 10am and then lunch arrived at 11am. I've been assured it's all correct now in the computer. The nurses have been able to get her soup to fill in during these times.

Chris returned home to Tahlequah today after spending four nights with Deedy (9pm until 9am!). Pauletta and Steve arrive Tuesday evening and Janie and Pauletta will begin alternating time with Deedy. She continues to really appreciate our being with her and not only rests better when we're here, but has someone to dispel the monotony of being in the hospital bed 24/7. We're on tape 3 of "The Shack".
