On September 18, 2008, Beverly Kohl was volunteering on the Oklahoma Southern Baptist Disaster Relief Team in Baton Rouge, LA, following Hurricane Gustav, when she fainted after a long day’s work, and fell 5 feet to the ground below, leaving her paralyzed from the chest down.

Respiratory Unit
We just finished helping move Beverly to a room in the Respiratory Unit! (This is still within the Critical Care Unit) She was thrilled to get a change of scenery and we will enjoy the larger room. In fact, Janie has decided to spend the night with her, as there are no more restrictions on visiting hours. The couch extends to bed, and there is also a recliner. While Janie stayed with her during the actual physical move, Pauletta and Steve did some "redecorating" of her new room. We will miss the staff in MSCC, but the new nurses and therapists have assured us they will take great care of her. And, because it is the respiratory specialty area, they can concentrate on her breathing. During the day, we did a trio of "Doe, a dear, a female deer" and she sang every word. Then we sang "Deep and Wide" trying to get her to breath very deep! More tomorrow!
