A hospital is no place to catch up on your sleep! Friday Beverly had another night with many disturbances. In addition to the regular checks for blood pressure, pulse, temperature, medications, ventilator adjustments, etc, she also must be turned from side to side every two hours (round the clock). Even with all this she rested pretty well after midnight last night, but said she felt exhausted and didn't know why. Chris stayed in Beverly's room again Friday night and she also got up every time someone came into the room to make sure Deedy was comfortable and didn't need anything more. Chris THOUGHT she was staying awake, but at one point during the night Deedy knocked her vent tube out. Alarms started going off and Chris got up and turned on a light and looked around before she figured out what had happened. Chris told her from now on if she needs attention, just knock the tube out and the alarms will wake her up! Deedy didn't seem too crazy about that idea. She DID wake Chris up around 6:30am Saturday morning by "talking past the vent" and saying "AWAKE". She then told Chris she wanted a coke.
Even though Beverly was pretty sleepy most of the day, around 4 pm she perked up and ate most of a bowl of broccoli cheese soup from Subway, drank a 20 oz diet coke and ate a cookie. She did good with holding her coke cup and then handing it to Janie. Before going to sleep Saturday night, we all listened to the CD "Brother Where Art Thou", complements of Pauletta and Steve. She especially likes "Down by the River".
