Around 2pm today we received the news that Beverly has been accepted at the Oklahoma University Medical Center in Oklahoma City! Her doctors feel she is nearly stable enough to travel by plane to Oklahoma City and details are in the works for the transfer to take place within the next week. Many people have been working on options for Beverly. Chris sent a plea to many politicians and rehab facilities. Monday she received a call from a representative from the Oklahoma Governor's office stating that we should contact the OU Medical Center. Thanks to his introduction, things began to happen. With Pauletta's help, Beverly's case manager at Our Lady of the Lake, Sharolyn Arrington, contacted the right people at the Medical Center and we are anticipating the transfer soon. The Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center is donating the entire cost of the medical air flight to Oklahoma. How can we ever thank them enough for this very generous gift?? This airplane will have two medical personnel with Beverly from the time she leaves the hospital here until she arrives at OU Medical Center. Janie is hoping to accompany her on the 2 hour trip.
Other news: The ABC TV affiliate here in Baton Rouge is coming to Beverly's room tomorrow morning at 10am and plan to tell Beverly's story on their WBRZ evening news. We know the people of Baton Rouge will be moved by this story.
Beverly received her daily facial and foot bath and stayed on "pressure support" from the ventilator for six hours today! She was very pleased with her success. The only thing bothering her now is her lack of sleep. This is the 3rd day and night that she has had only very short cat naps. HOPEFULLY she will sleep tonight and get rested up for her transfer in a few days. She wants to tell you how much she appreciates all of your prayers, concern, encouragement.
