Janie arrived in Beverly's room around 8am this morning, surprised to see Pauletta bright eyed and very much awake, after 26 hours of NO SLEEP! She managed to stay awake all night after attempting to sleep on a blanket next to Beverly's bed, with nurses stepping over her to take vitals, etc. Janie sent her to her hotel room to sleep but she was calling back to the hospital after only two hours of sleep. She and Steve decided to visit the Jim Thorpe Rehabilitation Center and were very impressed as was Leonard. They were given a tour by Karen Bryon, Clinical manager. Karen has had many similar experiences to Beverly's, volunteering with the Southern Baptist Convention in places such as India and she indicated they would very much like to have Beverly in their program. We will continue to work with Sam Porter and others to see if this can happen.
Beverly's day went pretty well, after some frustrations with the ventilator. And, she slept a few hours in the late afternoon. Hope she can sleep tonight. Beverly's sister-in-law Kathy and her daughter, Jennifer, surprised Beverly with a visit. Another visitor, Vicki Smith, (a long time friend of Janie's), brought us the most wonderful cookies from McLaren's Pantry in Edmond.
We have been trying to find who at the governor's office was responsible for Beverly being accepted here at the OU Medical Center and we were finally successful! Joel Gavin read Chris's letter, "Please don't say no," and was concerned enough to call Carol Howe at the OU Med Center. I was able to reach both of them by phone and expressed our deepest gratitude for their efforts and influence in getting Beverly back to Oklahoma and to this wonderful facility.
If you are in OKC, Beverly would LOVE to see you!
