Beverly had her best night of sleep since September 18th!! Part of it is probably because she is back in her BELOVED OKLAHOMA, and part maybe due to her brother Leonard's comment while visiting on Sunday. Leonard said that he couldn't sleep on his back so would never sleep well in a hospital either. Around 7:00pm, after eating, having her breathing treatment, and a bottle of Ensure, she asked to be turned onto her left side, lying completely on her side. Within a few minutes, she was sound asleep and slept well most of the night. She even slept through her breathing treatment. This consists of an inflated vest which encircles her chest. Air is forced into the vest and it shakes for 15 minutes. This has been found to be one of the best preventions for "hospital pneumonia," as it loosens up everything settling in her lungs so that it can be coughed or suctioned out. AND SHE SLEPT THROUGH THIS!!! Chris stayed with her all night, even though there is only a desk chair in her room. Janie slept at her friend Melba's house, in North OKC, and the changing of the guard was at 9am. Chris went to her hotel to sleep all day, thanks to Tylenol PM.

Dr. Jean Kaddissi came to her room Monday morning to discuss her plan of care. Of course, getting off the vent is the priority. This could happen by the weekend we hope. She has been on pressure support since 10am and is still doing fine on it. At night, she goes back to the control mode, so that she can rest more easily. After she is off the vent, she will either go to an LTAC facility or HOPEFULLY to the Jim Thorpe Rehabilitation facility nearby.

The physical therapist and the occupational therapist both spent some time with Deedy today. Deedy told me after the occupational therapist left she was somewhat discouraged because she is beginning to realize how hard and how far she needs to go. I reminded her that is her new job. She's never quit a job because it was hard. She has worked in very difficult situations around the world. She proved her determination and desire to get into shape to hike the Grand Canyon. This is her new job and she will work at it just like she has worked at every other job she has had.

She is resting now and listening to "The Shack" on CD, compliments of her friend Norma. We are hoping for another restful night and more work tomorrow on weaning off the vent.
